Regulations for Issaqueena Lake Wildlife Refuge

Legend has it Issaqueena rode her horse great distance to warn her (white-man) husband about fast approaching Indians seeking revenge for her marriage betrayal.
Some say she died during the quest others speak of a happy ending.Either way the power of love prevailed.

~Regulations For Public Use~

The Public is invited to pursue the following Recreational Activities on the Forest:

1- Picnicking (no reservations or fee), hiking and nature enjoyment.

2- Horseback riding (Current coggins test required) and bicycle riding on designated forest roads
and trails except those restricted to foot travel only.
No horses allowed in developed picnic areas.

3- Hunting and fishing except where specifically prohibited. Clemson University lands within Issaqueena
Wildlife Refuge for teaching and research are permanently closed to hunting.
Motorboats on Lake Issaqueena shall not exceed 5 m.p.h.-NO WAKE.
All South Carolina laws apply.

4- All vehicles are confined to the main roads. Speed limit on the Forest is 15 m.p.h.

~The Following Activities Are Strictly Prohibited~

1- Hunting or trapping on Clemson University lands in the Issaqueena Wildlife Refuge
for teaching and research. Wildlife research is in progress in this area;
therefore, no guns or archery equipment are allowed.
Dogs must be leashed and or under the demonstrable control of the owner at all times.

2- Camping.

3- Fires, except in structures provided. Extinguish all fires before leaving.

4- Trespassing on specific areas designated by signs or barricades as closed to the public.

5- Diving, swimming or sliding from, on or around the ISSAQUEENA DAM.

6- Recreational activities around barns, feed lots and in pastures or cultivated fields
and other areas posted.

7- Motorized vehicles except on established roadways.

8- Unauthorized motor vehicle use on roads closed by barricades or signs.
The Issaqueena Lake road is closed to motorized travel from November 1 to March 15.

9- Possession or consumption of alcohol, beer, or wine in all areas are prohibited.

All users are responsible for the safety of their person and property while in the Forest.
Entry onto Clemson University properties constitutes consent to an inspection
and search of the person and any vehicle, trailer, conveyance or container.

Persons apprehended for acts of arson, vandalism, littering, cutting or removing trees, shrubs, or other natural or man-made objects will be prosecuted.
